1.     I was born in Brooklyn, New York and lived there until I was 11

2.     I lived most of my life in Texas, starting in Dallas at age 11 and then moving to Austin, and San Antonio with my husband.  We came to Houston for his job – He came as a geriatric psychiatrist to work at the University of Texas Medical School.  Previous to that we spent 3 and ½ years in Illinois in Chicago where I took many art classes.  I was just beginning to study painting and drawing when we lived there and continued that in Houston at the Art League of Houston.

3.     I love the cultural advantages of living and working in Houston.  There is a large artists community and so much dance, music and theater available.  There are many resources for a visual artist to work and learn from.  Museums, arts organizations, galleries all offer support and learning opportunities.  Even when my husband retires from his current position I will continue to live in the Houston area because of the opportunities for the arts here.

Artists Bio and statement:   b. 1950  Born in New York and growing up in Dallas as a teen,  I have lived in Houston now since 1983 . I have trained with many teachers in Houston at the Art League, Glassell School of Art, the Watercolor Society of Houston, and Houston Civic Arts Association.   I am a member of the Visual Arts Alliance, the Women in the Visual and Literary Arts, and the Watercolor Society of Houston locally, and the Texas chapter of the National Woman’s Caucus for Art.  I serve on the national board of the Woman’s Caucus as S.W. regional chair.   My work has been in many juried competitions in Houston, N.Y. Los Angeles, and Chicago, and I have had solo exhibits in Houston.  I currently exhibit work in Galveston at Affaire D’Art and at my studio at Summer St., part of the Sawyer Yards studio complex.

Statement:  For many years I concentrated on drawing the figure in different media.  I was attracted to the emotions a model could display with their body position and facial expression.   In the last 20 years I have also developed a body of landscape work in various media.  I love being in nature and observing its beauty.  I work plein air as much as possible and otherwise from my own photos of places I have been.  I want the viewer to share my wonder at the beauty of our natural world.

I work mostly in watercolor and acrylic .  My framed watercolors are usually no larger than 24x30 with the majority smaller.  My canvases in acrylic are usually no larger than 24x36 and most are smaller.  They average 24x30 and smaller.
