Artists Questions:

·         Where were you born?

Mary is originally from La Junta, Colorado, but grew up on a farm in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas surrounded by birds, animals and the back woods. It is here where she roamed as a child and began a life-long passion of Nature, its Folk lore and Native American Mythic stories as passed down by her father. These are the basis of her art works.

·         When and under what circumstances did you move to Houston?

Mary and husband John originally moved to Houston in the midst of Hurricane Rita on assignment to her husband's work in oil and gas. They witness many traits in common and find admiration in the resilience with grace of Houston's population.  These traits are important in their own upbringing and those in which they wish to instill in their family.

·         What induces you to live and/or work in Houston today?

Mary and her husband live the life of Ex-Pats and travel the world, but they chose the Houston area as home base.  They work hard stay close to their children, grandchildren as hands on grandparents and plan retire in the area.

Artist Bio:

·         Artist Statement

Mary loves exploring and comparing folklore of other countries and with the tales her father handed down to her and of their family heritage.  She often discovers a sense of universality and family connection while studying other countries Folk lore and Mythos. Currently, she is still roaming, collecting and creating her own visual narratives. Mary works part-time in her studio in Houston's Spring Street Studios #114, her home in Cypress, Texas and part- time in Brazil where her husband currently works.

Mary works in Acrylic, Watercolor, Watercolor pencil/Graphite and Marker, and Collage

Her sizes range 8" x 10" to 36 x 60" and 48 X 48" on Canvas.
